IGT is a company that has been the industry standard in gaming through the years when it comes to slot machines for the land-based market. But it has also made inroads into the online gaming world, and it might surprise some people that they have been there for a while already.
International Game Technology (IGT) makes some of the more dazzling slot machines in the world. And the company is a major presence at any gaming show. But IGT Interactive was established in order to take advantage of the opportunities that are available in the areas of mobile gaming and online gambling as well. They have done this in part through acquisitions. They acquired WagerWorks about eight years ago; this company already had an online gaming platform and was experienced in designing outstanding games based on popular themes, such as Monopoly.
IGT then went ahead and acquired a company named Million-2-1, based in the United Kingdom, which was very heavily involved in the mobile gaming space. This acquisition paved the way for IGT to start adapting casino games to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. There was a consolidation of all of these interests into IGT Interactive, which is essentially the company's arm in cyberspace. And it has rapidly grown to the point where there are over 200 employees involved with that division alone.
This company has been doing business with its online games in North America for only a couple of years no, but there is no question that with the resources they have at their disposal, they are a force to be reckoned with. With the landscape changing in the United States, and individual states now turning to online gambling as a possible revenue source, IGT finds itself in the enviable position of having done business, and being licensed, by some of the jurisdictions that are instituting the new gambling laws.
Among the "product" they put out for the online market, there are over 80 slot games, which include those associated with major brands such as Wheel of Fortune and Star Trek, as well as Monopoly (for which there are no less than three slots titles); table games which colorful variations such as French Roulette, 3-Wheel Roulette and Hot Streak Blackjack; a full collection of video poker offerings, and a number of instant win games, including "Monopoly on a Roll." Many of the games are offered in nineteen different languages and can be played in just about any currency imaginable. This certainly is one company that is positioned to compete well into the future.
